About the Webinar:
Due to the fast development and mature technology on renewable-energy resources such as wind, solar (PV), ocean thermal/tidal/wave/marine current, biogas, micro hydro, etc., the generated power from these renewable-energy resources having inherent intermittent characteristics can be integrated together by means of different microgrid (MG) systems such as DC MG, AC MG, and hybrid AC/DC MG systems. Suitable energy-storage devices or distributed Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) with suitable control system(s) can also be applied to the studied MG systems to deliver stable voltage and/or frequency to the connected power systems or isolated loads. Novel control units and/or advanced control strategies need to be well developed to maintain system stability with good voltage profile and/or small system-frequency deviations of the studied MG systems under various disturbance conditions.

The aim of this research project is to invite partners from various countries in Southeast and South Asia to constitute a research alliance to develop different MG systems joined with various renewable-energy resources and/or distinct energy-storage/control units. Different control schemes can be developed in different countries to apply to the selected MG system to effectively improve system stability and/or maintain voltage/frequency profile of the selected microgrid system under various disturbance conditions. Comparative results on power flow, damping characteristics, and time-domain simulations under various operating conditions can also be achieved to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategies on the selected MG system.
